How long are you going to sit there? Screaming silence. A lamb caught in a trap so long, you’ve laid down.
You know what they say about you. Damaging, paralyzing, and all true. You are what they say you are. If that’s all there was to it, I wouldn’t be writing. You did what they said you did. If that’s all there was to it, you wouldn’t still be here.
I know what you say about yourself. You’re all done making excuses because none of them have worked. You’ve owned what you did and now what? You’re waiting and I know what you’re waiting for. That guillotine is never going to come down on you. You’re not going to be put out of your misery with your own blood shed. Spirits don’t have blood.
They’ve handed you over to Satan (1 Corinthians 5:5), so what’s taking so long?
If you could find happiness in selfishness, you would be happy. If you could find life by giving in, you would have found it. Spiritual death breathes all over you. The dogs of condemnation are salivating at your nakedness. Don’t you wonder what’s holding them back?
What would God say to you? You haven’t asked because you think you know. You take the silence for His answer. The cold shoulder is so much worse than the screaming of the dogs. But, I don’t think it’s the cold shoulder. I think it’s patience.
Your Redeemer God says: “I left you, but only for a moment. Now, with enormous compassion, I’m bringing you back. In an outburst of anger I turned my back on you— but only for a moment. It’s with lasting love that I’m tenderly caring for you.” -Isaiah 54:7-8 MSG
You’re ready to tell the truth now. No excuses. No self-pity. You’re so far past that, your value is up to Him and He’s “tenderly caring for you.”
He hasn’t forgotten where you live. He has you written on the palm of His hands.
Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. -Isaiah 49:15-16 ESV
You have been pushed out. Your mountains have pulled up their roots and walked away from you. All that was has been drowned and you’re waiting for it to drown you, too. But, it won’t. You think He’s left you, too. But, He hasn’t.
“This exile is just like the days of Noah for me: I promised then that the waters of Noah would never again flood the earth. I’m promising now no more anger, no more dressing you down. For even if the mountains walk away and the hills fall to pieces, my love won’t walk away from you, my covenant commitment of peace won’t fall apart.” The God who has compassion on you says so. -Isaiah 54:9-10 MSG
You know what you deserve. The death-row wait is too long when you know you’re guilty. Nobody visits you. Nobody pities you.
What would He say to you?
“Afflicted city, storm-battered, unpitied: I’m about to rebuild you…You’ll be built solid, grounded in righteousness, far from any trouble—nothing to fear! far from terror—it won’t even come close!” –Isaiah 54:11, 14
Can you imagine being called righteous again? Long before we feel it, He declares it. It’s hard to believe that the terror you feel will be gone. It’s hard to imagine not being what you’ve done.
No more labels. They won’t stick. No more condemnation. He saw to it when He sent His Son.
He is the shield that surrounds you. He makes your enemies fall just because they’re enemies of you.
“If anyone attacks you, don’t for a moment suppose that I sent them. And if any should attack, nothing will come of it.” -Isaiah 54:15 MSG
You can get up now. Those chains have been unlocked for a long time.
If they were right in casting you out, then the last part of that verse (1 Corinthians 5:5) has been fulfilled. Your spirit has been saved.
