what do you believe?

Posted: January 17th, 2010 | Filed under: life | 12 Comments »

This week I’ll be exploring some scriptures which seem to contradict themselves. It should be fun. Especially if we let scripture explain scripture instead of letting doctrine explain scripture. (Not that doctrine is bad, but I’m not a fan of believing what I’m told to believe if I’m getting something else from scripture.)

So, I need your help. Will you answer these questions out of your existing belief? We’ll explore them and compare them to what the Bible says. If you want to throw your own scriptural support in, that’s great. I’ll refer to them as I prepare the Bible study for this week.

  • 1.) Is it true that some people will not ‘choose Christ’?
  • 2.) How do you ‘choose Christ’?
  • 3.) If God has ‘given you to Jesus’, can you reject it?
  • 4.) Is it possible to not believe something that you believe? (If you believe that the grass is green, can you be convinced otherwise? etc…)
  • 5.) Does Christ’s sacrifice cover every sin?
  • 6.) Is there more than one Truth?
  • 7.) Can you guess which fourth grader is me?
  • April guessed it! (I’ll think of your prize later. ;))

1.) Is it true that some people will not ‘choose Christ’?

    Yes

2.) How do you ‘choose Christ’?

I don't choose Christ. He chose me back before I ever was.

3.) If God has ‘given you to Jesus’, can you reject it?

God is the Almighty, how can something He says 'will be' ever be refuted? So, no, if God has given me to Jesus then I can fight and fight and think I'm rejecting Him but eventually it will come to a point when I can fight no longer.

4.) Is it possible to not believe something that you believe? (If you believe that the grass is green, can you be convinced otherwise? etc…)

If God has put Himself in my heart though I may slip and stumble and become faint-hearted I don't believe I could be convinced otherwise. God gives us faith, we may lapse but ultimately God holds us in the palm of His hand and He never lets go of us.

5.) Does Christ’s sacrifice cover every sin?

    Yes

6.) Is there more than one Truth?

    There is only God's truth.

7.) Can you guess which fourth grader is me?

No, but I will have a guess. Are you the girl

standing on the end (next to your teacher) in the second row, not looking at the camera?

Sue, your answers make me smile. πŸ™‚ And that cute girl is not me.

You aren't the one wearing the tie, right? Or the other tall person?

I was gone the day of that class picture. My version has me Photoshopped in with Johnny Depp's body from Curse of the Black Pearl. Savvy?

Do you still have that outfit? You still dress like that — a bit.

1.) Is it true that some people will not ‘choose Christ’?

    yes.

2.) How do you ‘choose Christ’?

    Surrender.

3.) If God has ‘given you to Jesus’, can you reject it?

    yes. That's free will.

4.) Is it possible to not believe something that you believe? (If you believe that the grass is green, can you be convinced otherwise? etc…)

If you don't believe something that you believe, then you didn't really believe it. You believe what you experience. I "thought" I believed what everyone spoonfed to me, until I experienced God's grace through personal relationship with Jesus, then I believed. Really believed.

5.) Does Christ’s sacrifice cover every sin?

    yep. every sin.

6.) Is there more than one Truth?

    No.

7.) Can you guess which fourth grader is me?

I think you're the one on the bottom row with the glasses.

    1) Is it true that some people will not ‘choose Christ’?

    True.

    2) How do you ‘choose Christ’?

Free will. I mean, you can choose to hate Him. You'll go to Hell, just as the Bible says. Or you can choose to love Him and live life for Him.

    3) If God has ‘given you to Jesus’, can you reject it?

Yep. Free will, just as others have said.

    4) Is it possible to not believe something that you believe? (If you believe that the grass is green, can you be convinced otherwise? etc…)

Certainly. We believe certain things – and the Bible convinces us otherwise. Likewise, some people believe God is a God of hate and not love, and I've seen many people be convinced otherwise.

    5) Does Christ’s sacrifice cover every sin?

Besides blaspheming God, I believe so.

    6) Is there more than one Truth?

You know, that's a toughie. The Bible has some things which you must interpret, and they're interpreted differently. Some things, like in Revelations when the "angels of the seven churches" is spoken to, have multiple meanings. They may all be appropriate, though I don't know if they're all "Truth."

Michelle: have you read the posts that follow this one? I use scripture to answer the questions. You might find it interesting… πŸ™‚

Yes, I figured it would be interesting just to see what everybody thought and believed before the blogs though. So that's why I posted. I'm working my way through them while studying for finals. I'll get back to you later on how awesome they are… πŸ˜‰
