Self pity is an easy trap to fall into. The injustice that we face is hard to let roll off our backs. However, I believe that if we have a better understanding of God and His purposes, then we will look at the details of our lives in a different light.
We spend a lot of energy trying to figure out God’s will for our lives. Until we come to the understanding that it’s God’s will for us to know Him, then we will get hung up on all the things He’s using to reveal Himself.
We usually look for God in the positive experiences and the feel good things, but God is also in the tough experiences. God can be found in the pain.
Self pity steals our joy in the growth. Self pity is evidence that we have no idea who God is.
God gives us purpose that transcends who we are. If we get caught up in the details, then we lose our focus on the bigger picture.
Jesus tells us to focus on Him and He’ll have our backs. We don’t need to stand up for ourselves. He can do it so much better.
“Even the most devout among us become atheistic in this regard – we do not believe Him. We put our common sense on the throne and then attach God’s name to it. We do lean to our own understanding, instead of trusting God with all our hearts.” – Oswald Chambers
