This is wonderful, as is the second part of this series. When fellowships become so large that people can't ask questions then it gets out of hand. Prophets are subject to prophets and teachers subject to teachers. When they don't question one another in love to establish and confirm with one another what God is showing them, then those who are students don't get a clearer picture of the Truth. Being a prophet and teacher requires humility among one another. They need to receive correction when they are get off track.

I believe in small groups and open communication during teaching. It helps the unity, trust is developed, and the assembly as a whole can remain subject to Christ as the head. Give a 'leader' too much room without question and he becomes victim to the enemy in becoming a cult leader.

About 'reformed' I believe the written word says we are to be 'renewed'. The two are very different from one another. Conforming to Jesus Christ is different than reforming into the thoughts of a human teacher.

Hi, April: that's why I put 'choose Christ' in quotations. The purpose of the quotation is to say something in a way that I wouldn't naturally say, but others do.

You said, roughly, the same thing my husband said when I made him answer the questions. You're (both) correct because 'surrender' is a response to something. In this case, it's the 'call.'

So it magnifies the point, you can't 'choose Christ' unless He's chosen you.

Serena,
Good word. Are you reformed in your doctrine? I agree wholeheartedly that God chooses us, we do not choose Him. We don't "accept" Christ, we simply acknowledge Him. Sadly, too many Christians are not more intentional about the words we use and therefore miscommunicate about how we get to heaven. Spurgeon says it best, "God had to choose me before the foundation of the world because he certainly would not have chosen me afterward."

Serena, you asked, "Is it true that some people will not choose Christ?" and then went on to say that noone can choose Christ. So, that doesn't make sense to me.

We definitely can choose to respond to the holy spirit, and that is what I meant when I answered yesterday. Surrender is a choice. This is why I have a problem with Vacation Bible School alter calls. Masses of first graders will go running up to accept Christ as their Savior because their friends went up front...

They're human. They get confident and stop paying attention to their terminology. They take liberties with scripture to make a point they choose instead of letting scripture choose their point. They're human.

Just thoughts:
I'm reminded of what it was like, as a kid, to see your teacher at the grocery store. They're your teacher, the smartest people in the world and their only purpose is to teach you. Any sign of being a human is met with confusion and shock. They're a teacher first, then they're a human. They're judged by 'teacher' standards and not 'human' standards. They can't get sick, they can't get pregnant, they can't live at home (as opposed to school) they can't need groceries. It's cute coming from a kid, it's not cute coming from adults in a church.

Why do you think our church leadership gets it wrong sometimes?

This is great, by the way. Can't wait for tomorrow.
